Buy Books Online

Now I have always been a Barnes and Noble girl. The store gives off this warm feeling that only book lovers would understand. So when a friends birthday was coming up I went to Barnes and Noble to get her a gift. I bought a paperback edition of Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater and a Robert Frost Poetry book. Shiver was $9.99.

Now being a girl obsessed with books, I had to have my own copy. So that night i went on to Barnes and Nobles website to order the book online. Shiver was $8.99. A entire dollar cheaper. A dollar might not mean a lot to some people but to me, a dollar is one step closer to buying another book that i wanted. So, this brought up a question in my mind, "Why was the online book cheaper than the one in the store?"

My first thought was that the store had to be cheaper because I wasted my gas to drive to the store to get these must needed books. But as I thought about it, the online books came directly from the factory where they hold all these wonderful books.

The lesson I learned from all this is that buy your books online and if you can buy $25 of books so that you get free shipping at Barnes and Noble.

The Fellowship of the Ring

Originally, Tolkien wanted Lord of the Rings to be one book. However, his publisher advised him to split the book into a series so that more people would be inclined to read it. The magnificent story begins with a young hobbit named Frodo and the journey that would lead him across Middle-Earth on a trip to destroy an ancient dark ring. The ring he inherited from his uncle Bilbo Baggins and now, Frodo must travel to Mt. Doom to cast the ring in the only place it could be destroyed. Three fellow hobbits, two men, a wizard, an elf, and a dwarf accompany him. Frodo must face Black Riders who serve Sauron and Orcs. At the end of the book, Frodo decides to split away from the fellowship because it is becoming too dangerous and it is Frodo’s burden alone. Sam, his hobbit friend, goes with him.

The book is different from the movie just like any movie adapted book. It has more details and you learn and connect more with the characters. In parts of the book, you could actually find that some of the dialogue is the same as in the movie!

Our Featured Author is J.R.R Tolkien.

Tolkien’s first book was The Hobbit written in 1973. It is about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins and the journey that sweeps him away from his comfortable hobbit-hole. Gandalf, a wizard, and a company of dwarves travel along with him. They are in search of treasure that is guarded by a dragon named Smaug. However, Bilbo and his new friends must travel through hazardous dark forests and steep mountains to get there. They must face spiders, wolves, goblins, and eventually the fire-breathing dragon. The Hobbit shows a glimpse of the world that many fantasy lovers know and adore.

Here are some quotes by Tolkien:

“I do not love the bright sword for it's sharpness, nor the arrow for it's swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.”

“The wide world is all about you; you can fence yourselves in, but you cannot forever fence it out.”

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”

“It’s a job that’s never started that takes the longest to finish.”
